The Bakersfield Hockey-thon, which I was lucky enough to participate in, raised over $36,000 in the fight against breast cancer.
And my left leg still hurts from it. Ah, memories.

Up and at ‘em. I’m off to Stockton. The hotel had hot water this morning, so I actually got my shower in.
Pictures from game 2 of the Condors run are up, which includes another former NHLer:

Pictures will go up later tonight from the hockey-thon.
Recently-acquired Condors forward Danny LaPointe was arrested Monday morning and charged with two felony counts and two misdemeanors.

This is bad, bad, bad.
Condors coach Marty Raymond has been suspended for seven days and assistant coach Mark Pederson has been suspended indefinitely over “an internal matter,” team President Matthew Riley confirmed Monday.
….
Former Condors Scott Hay and Sean Venedam will serve as interim coaches and run practices for the next week, Riley said. Hay is general manager of the Bakersfield Ice Sports Center and the team’s goalie coach. Venedam is a former team captain whose career ended last February when he suffered a severe break of his left leg.

Scott Hay was on my team for the Hockey-thon.
And this isn’t the only news coming out of Bakersfield right now.
The Condors are hanging out at the hotel bar. I guess this is the only action in town right now.
The guy on the far right is Yutaka Fukufuji. He sat down next to me right after I took that picture. More on Fukufuji later.
Bakersfield wins the game, 5-2. Mark Derlago got the hat trick. The chippy play settled down a bit in this game, and was replaced with good skating and end-to-end action. Bakersfield are 8-1-1 in their last ten games, which is helping them turn around a horrible season. You can see the gamesheet here.
The fans really embraced me, and took me in as their own. They hung out with me, talked about the games and my trip, and even searched me out. At the end of the game, there was a post game skate with the players, and I took part even though I am still sore beyond belief. After the skate, as I was exiting, there was a person at the top of the stairs who asked, “Are you Tapeleg?” Simply awesome. Hockey fans are the best.
The Condors Alumni lost to the Western Alumni (aka the Defuncts) 15-4. Scott May was in net for the Condors, and was a forward for my tournament team. Skipping out of the last two tourney games obviously didn’t help him.
I am in so much pain right now. I’m serious, every part of me hurts. My skin hurts.
Condors Alumni game in 50 minutes. There is a post game skate with the players, but I am not doing it. I thought about it, but I can’t even roll over in bed without a struggle.
Bakersfield loses in the shootout, 4-3. Condors had the lead until a dumb penalty taken by Matt Pope, with 2:07 left in the 3rd. Sometimes, you have to let things go. Lots of people came up to say hi, which made me feel at home. Now I’m off to sleep for a few hours before the game tonight.
The Condors are down 2-1 after the first. One of my teammates invited me to sit with his family. Several people have come up to me to talk about the road trip. It makes me glad I’m taking it.
Alright, I’m up. I went to bed around 5:20AM, it is now 10:30 AM. I’m hoping to be awake only long enough for the Condors game at noon, then I’m back to sleep around 7:00 PM for my next two games. Three on tap tonight. 9:30 PM, 11:45 PM, and 3:15 AM. And I do not need reminding of why I am doing this.
I just can’t sleep. I’m too nervous / revved up for the games tonight. I have to relax a little. I guess this just gives me more time to stretch and shave (the stitches take better that way (ha!)). Looks like I was right about the alumni players, and they will be playing in the alumni game on Sunday afternoon, right before the Condors game. I hope they pace themselves.
Avs vs Caps is keeping me awake for the moment, but it really is time for a pregame nap. Remember, I am playing from 1-2 AM and 3:15-4:15 AM. This schedule won’t break me, since I am a late night person, but it will bend me.
This is the view from my hotel room. On the left is the rink of doom, on the right is Rabobank Arena, where the Condors play. At least I am close.
Good for the Condors. They obviously “get it.”
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Bakersfield Condors, official ECHL affiliate of the Anaheim Ducks, announced today five Good Neighbor Games that will allow Fresno Falcons fans to redeem select Falcons tickets for Condors games at no cost. The Falcons ceased operations on Dec. 22, 2008.
