One very long drive later, I’m finally home. The trip was interesting, and unlike any of my previous hockey road trips. I have some pondering to do about that.

I still have photos to post from the rinks in Dubuque and Waterloo. And things to say about the brief bit of a game I saw in Waterloo.

But tomorrow is my rec hockey game at the Ice Ranch in Littleton. 2:20PM. You wouldn’t miss it for the world, right? Right. :-)

It is with some small satisfaction that I report the Mall of the Bluffs in Council Bluffs, IA has fallen on hard times. I do not dance in its grave for the loss of jobs that I’m sure came with it, but in that I will probably never stop there again on my travels. RIP Mall of the Bluffs. You will be missed by someone who is not me.

    Coming Home

I decided to bail on the Lincoln game tonight and just come home. This had less to do with the Cedar Rapids game and more to do with not wanting to stay in another crappy hotel tonight, and wanting to be in a better place for my rec league game tomorrow.

Also, I feel like I got a fun hockey experience in Waterloo with the last several minutes of the youth game than I will at the louder Lincoln Stars game tonight. I’ll tell you more about that later. But I’m not sad about not going to the game tonight. A little relieved, actually.

Good morning. Writing about last night’s game was very therapeutic. I feel a lot better about it this morning (I felt better after writing about it). I’m deciding on if I really want to go to the Lincoln Stars game or if I just want to marathon drive home. I want to be back in Denver, but I want to see tonight’s game, and not end my trip on the down note of last night’s game.

The truth is, I should have moved myself last night. I bought my ticket for my seat, and I was stubborn and wanted to see and enjoy the game from my seat. There weren’t a lot of places to move to, and I didn’t want to be the guy who takes other people’s seats and has to keep moving and make people ask him to move. I hate seeing that, and I really don’t want to be that guy. But as you read in last night’s post (, there wasn’t anywhere to go. Every section had their cowbells. There was no guarantee there would be any different experience anywhere else. Which is pretty much justification for not doing enough to make my experience better.

So what now? After staying the night in the worst Motel 6 yet, I’m ready to sleep in my own bed. I’m going to drive to Waterloo, IA to take pictures of the arena there, and decide on the way to Lincoln what to do. I’m leaning towards the game, but it’s a 53-47 lean right now. If I could go to the game and then head home, I would choose that option. But it’s going to be one or the other.

Go to the game in Lincoln. Don’t let one bad experience like the Cedar Rapids game be the last memory of a very cool hockey trip!

Terry, I decided not to go, but the good thing is that the Cedar Rapids game isn’t my last hockey memory on this trip. It’s a youth game in Waterloo, which is actually a good way to end this trip on (unless you consider my rec game the end, which I kind of do). I’ll talk about it a bit more later.

    Riders Win; Crowd Sucks

I fear tonight’s post game post is just going to be anger at the fans sitting around me. Because I am angry at the fans sitting around me. One of the worst personal game experiences I’ve had. Probably top 5 of worst games.
